Online Backup Statistics Still Highlight the Importance of Data Backup

Some interesting online backup statistics were revealed yesterday from a recent survey. One of the most surprising was that a whopping two thirds of US citizens have no real understanding of just how important it is to backup their files, and what the consequences of a complacent attitude toward trusting the lifespan of their PC hard drives could be.

The general sense which could be ultimately read from the findings was that although online backup is growing at a phenomenal rate, there is still a vast amount of data out there which is not being backed up, and therefore not benefiting from superior levels of protection.

It must be said that this is not entirely new knowledge, as there has been other surveys which have been conducted in the past which have shown similar patterns. Although a lack of interest in securing data—whether from negligence or ignorance—may be bad for consumers, this can be seen as good for the online backup industry as it shows there is room for considerable growth.

One unfortunate statistic that has again cropped up is that a large number of people—fifty one percent, in fact!—have experienced complete data loss at one time or another. This, as always, sounds like a lot, but when you consider that most people will continually use their computer until it’s on its last legs (even when the virtual grim reaper is near), it’s not too hard to understand why. And it’s at this point that it may die on them completely. Of course, sometimes a computer’s health can seem to be in check too, and then…game over.

If you are one of these people who prefers to keep their head in the sand when it comes to the importance of online backup, just remember that fifty three percent of people in the survey reacted very badly—this included screaming and fits of anger!
